Elon Musk took the stage June 1, 2016 night at Code Conference 2016 for a chat with Kara Swisher and Walt Mossberg. In a wide-ranging interview, the SpaceX founder and Tesla CEO talked about the future of artificial intelligence, his plans to finish the Tesla Model 3, and what a government on Mars should look like. He also thinks that we’re all already cyborgs.

Bill Gates is excited about the rise of artificial intelligence but acknowledged the arrival of machines with greater-than-human capabilities will create some unique challenges.

“The dream is finally arriving,” Gates said, speaking with wife Melinda Gates on Wednesday at the Code Conference. “This is what it was all leading up to. We’ve made more progress in the last five years than at any time in history,” Gates said.

Gates called AI the “holy grail” as he envisions a future “with machines that are capable and more capable than human intelligence.”

Sheryl Sandberg and Michael Schroepfer discussed what Facebook is working on regarding virtual reality, augmented reality and artificial intelligence. Mike Schroepfer who is CTO of Facebook also explained how Aritificial Intelligence is used in Facebook Systems.

“There’s no doubt in my mind that cognitive AI will impact everything in our lives in five years,” Rometty said on Wednesday at Re/Code’s Code conference in Ranchos Palos Verdes, California. “You’re not going to stop it,” she said. “The trend is going to keep moving.”

“I absolutely think that we can be a leader in artificial intelligence, and I think its future importance to commerce is significant,” Wenig said. “I think horizontal use cases of AI are very far away — this idea that you’ll talk to something and it will do anything for you. … It’s the vertical use cases that are going to win overall.”

Amazon and eBay aren’t alone in the field of artificial intelligence, as both technology companies and retailers experiment with new ways to monetize the web’s most popular destinations.
